The project, funded by The Pilgrim Trust, to create digital copies of the Desmid section of the Fritsch Collection began in November 2008. Currently over 7000 images (approximately half of this group) have been digitized, with the aim of providing a searchable online copy to improve accessibility for researchers.

We are always grateful for and reprints on algal taxonomy, especially those with new species. The Fritsch Collection is now seeking funding to digitise the rest of the sheets.
